Volcan Barú, from the main Volcan Road. February 2008
Volcano Barú is a dormant volcano (the last eruption was about 500AD), situated a little to the south of the Continental Divide. It is part of the Talamanca Range, which lies on the border between Costa Rica and Panama, and much of which falls within the borders of the La Amistad International Park. The volcano is surrounded by largely fertile land, an area of cool highands drained by the Caldera and Chiriqui rivers. To the west the small agricultural towns of Volcan and Cerro Punta (the latter has an elevation of around 2000 metres), to the east, Boquete.
